Divas, divas, DIVAS!!! This is Mizz Sassy with Upgrade My Diva coming with shine and always fine attitude and gratitude to all my fellow divas and divos in N-E-T land. Today’s topic is all about jobs, the J.O.B., Just Over Broke mentality. Now I know many of us struggle with trying to figure out what our purpose in this life is. For me personally, I had many aspirations, but none were really supported by my mother. First I wanted to be a poet, because I just love creative writing (if you couldn’t tell lol), and she told me “Child that ain’t go make you no money. You need to find something else.” So then I delved into fashion design at a later age. I was always into fashion and individualizing myself, and I planned on attending FIDM in Los Angeles. Once again, my mom with the rain on my parade, “Girl that ain’t go make you no money, you need something to fall back on.” At this point I was stupid frustrated, lol. Why is this woman constantly telling me to find something else? Well I figured it out. My mom was a beautician for most of my life. Her passion was doing hair. However after a while, she got burned out, in her late thirties! At that point she had 3 kids, bills to pay, and no other career aspirations to fall back on. So here she was, went from making money, to making stress with entry level positions in a dying workforce. So she went back to school for a Medical Assistant certificate, only to find there weren’t many positions available in that market. So now she not only has bills, but student loan debt. So then she went and worked as a CNA at a nursing home, now in her mid 40’s. So witnessing and being constantly exposed to those moments, I realized why she was so adamant about me having a “plan B”. Because she spent most of her adult life doing something she loves, just to realize she don’t love it THAT much, and now she’s in her latter years trying to START a career. Do you hear me? At that moment I made myself a promise that my purpose will be realized well before I hit 30. That by the time I’m 30, I should be if not already in my career, well into the steps to get there. With that said, what is your plan B? Please tell me you have one. Because look around boo-boo, the world is not waiting on you. Money is not waiting on you. Success is not waiting on you. Happiness is NOT WAITING ON YOU! Unless you figure out, what is it that makes me so happy, that I would do it for free? That I would enjoy my life if I could do “this” everyday? And if someone was willing to pay me for it, that would be the icing on the cake?! Because nowadays, I see so many CNA’s, beauticians, and all other career paths that so many young women get into for the money. But those are positions that you are providing a “service”, something that you have to have some level of compassion about, outside of your check. Because if you are STILL living above your means, stress will still happen. Pain and frustration will still happen. And before you know it, the service that you are getting paid for is mediocre at best. And the customer, client, patient, suffers. So I got off on this tangent for one reason, and one reason only, find your plan B, and find it quickly. Because there is no such thing as “stability”, and you do not want to be caught with all of your eggs in one basket. I myself, I have a full time career, a home-based business, and a full time student. I am a student of life, love, and longevity, and whatever the next path is I take, it would be a path of empowerment, because that is my life’s calling. I knew from day one that the words I spoke, typed, or write had the opportunity to make others think. Change a mind, change a heart, change a life. And I encourage all to find what is it in you, that show your best. Not your best salary, but your best person. So for now, not live but direct, with all the respect. Peace, love, and give ya girl a hug. I’m Mizz Sassy, and I’m out!

Your Ego

Divas, divas, DIVAS!!! This is Mizz Sassy with Upgrade My Diva coming with shine and always fine attitude and gratitude to all my fellow divas and divos in N-E-T land. Today, we are going to address that word “Ego”. From a positive side it means your consciousness of your own identity, from a negative it can be an inflated feeling of pride in your superiority to others. So what does ego mean to me? Well I will start with what I think ego means to a lot of women. Ladies, its 2009. We came from being degraded by men, to now being degraded by other women. Way back in the day before I was born, women stood together to raise awareness of our mistreatment. Now that we have come full circle, we are mistreating ourselves. Now I am by no means a saint. I will say right her to the world that I use to be a hater. I use to sit back and judge every woman I came across because I had some insecurities in myself. Its one thing to love yourself, it’s a whole other thing to hate on another in the process. It’s ok to be self aware, to be completely and utterly happy with your life, style, and situation. But who am I to laugh, poke fun, or completely disrespect another person, whether they be woman or man? As women I believe we were born wanting respect, yet we can take it away from ourselves and others so easily. So I challenge every woman on the net, and every woman that is passed this post, next time you see a sista, say “How you doing diva!”. Next time you see that girl we all know wit a "doo" not up to our standards, a subpar outfit, and shoes you wouldn’t mess with, tell her “you look good!”. Because you not lying to her, she knows what she feels. We all need to understand that our look, our style, is our own. Lets not be trendsetters and be individuals. Set your ego and pride to the side, and shake a hand. Don’t stoop to a level that you wouldn’t want your own daughter stooping to. Let’s not judge but be joyful, because you may be missing out on a great friend, or husband, because you took the position to hate. Now I know, there are some professional haters out there, and by all means continue to do your job. When you are ready to cross over to the winning team, give me a holla.

So for now, not live but direct, with all the respect. Peace, love, and give ya girl a hug. I’m Mizz Sassy, and I’m out!

War on Fat Back!

Divas, divas, DIVAS!!! This is Mizz Sassy with Upgrade My Diva coming with shine and always fine attitude and gratitude to all my fellow divas and divos in N-E-T land. So my fellow readers, I have a public service announcement. We are in the middle of a recession, and fat back is on the horizon. A question you may ask is, “Girl what the H-E-double hockey sticks is fat back?!”, well my friend it is a major malfunction with any diva, divo, or miscellaneous folk where there is some serious jig-go-lation-nation pertruding from the back to torso area. Now I know I have some vuluptous sistas and brothers out there, but by NO MEANS are you to look untailored in your new fit, cut or curly weave. You want to look polished, put together, and treat the streets as your runway darling. You do not, I repeat DO NOT want the body wave from the back when you think you got it like that. Not only is it not a good look, but it sends a message of… hmm…. How do I say this gently, PURE LAZINESS that you don’t care enough about yourself or your body to tone it up, suck it in, and stick it out! Now before I get all the hate comments, I am in no way, shape, or form saying your can’t be big and beautiful, but there is a method to the madness. Get yourself a quality, medical grade, reshaping garment like the body magic. This is not to self-promote but to make you self aware. Have all the confidence in the world boo-boo but help ya back, butt, and breast out with some heavy duty support for your heavy duty life. I’m a plus size girl myself and I can say I look and feel frumpy without my body magic. So if you acknowledge, fully understand, and have a masterplan for the war on fat back, can I get a AMEN! Church.

Not live but direct, with all the respect. Peace, love, and give ya girl a hug. I’m Mizz Sassy, and I’m out!
